Auroral

Silently from the couch of night,
From velvet sleep unlit with dream
Arise, o goddess ever bright...

Loosen your hair and let it stream
Like some cascade of liquid ore,
Through which your naked shoulders gleam.

Remembering what love you bore,
In jewell’d grasses now the frail
Cicadas twitch and buzz, once more...

Walk not, ablaze, in burnish’d mail,
But scented silks as fine as mist,
Cool and diaphanous, that veil

Your gold with lucent amethyst.
